Welcome to the West Warwick Wastewater Treatment Facility!
We hope you find this site informative as well as entertaining. Our facility handles an average of 5 million gallons of untreated waste-water daily. It is our mission to provide the most efficient and cost effective methods of wastewater treatment.
Okay let’s get started!!
Once the wastewater(in-fluent ) enters the facility the first process is to remove settable solids. This is achieved by rotary drum screens that separate solids as water flows through a rotating screen while solids drop into a conveyor . The in-fluent continues thru a channel to a cone shaped tank which creates a vortex allowing heavier material to collect on the bottom .
Now onto the primary clarifiers
As flow enters the center baffle it is reduced from 2 feet per second down to 1 foot per second. This will cause the heavier solids to sink to the bottom . As the skimmer arm rotates it pushes the settled sludge into a hopper. Once inside the hopper it is pumped into a wasting tank to be processed for disposal……
Newly installed Rotary Drum Thickener is online!!!
This will greatly INCREASE the amount of solid material in the liquid sludge prior to disposal. As the drum rotates ,liquid polymer is mixed with primary wasted sludge .This increases the percent of solids by causing the sludge to floc when it comes into contact with the polymer .
The new process eliminates the use of the screening press which will save the facility hauling costs and also greatly reduce odors, In fact odors have been nonexistent over the last few weeks which is extremely rewarding to the staff!!
….Stay tuned with more to follow !!!
