SEWER BACKUP POLICY

If you have a problem with your sewer connection, before agreeing to pay a plumber, you or your plumber must contact the Wastewater Treatment Facility so the main line can be inspected to determine if the existing problem is the responsibility of the West Warwick Sewer Commission.

If it is determined the problem is not in the main line, then the owner is responsible for repair and/or maintenance of the service connection and will need to take further action.

IMPORTANT!
If the property owner or an authorized representative (i.e., the plumber) does not notify the Sewer Commission as set forth above, then the Sewer Commission will not be responsible for any costs and/or expenses associated with the line problem, its repair and/or maintenance, even if it is determined that the problem exists in the main line.

POLICY ON OUTSIDE WATER METERS

METERS MUST BE IN CUBIC FEET! (Cf)

If you install a meter to measure the amount of water you use outside your home (i.e., for pools, sprinkler systems, etc.) which has no impact on the West Warwick Sewer System, you MUST obtain a plumbing permit from the building official and install according to the specifications as outlined in the installation instructions provided by Kent County Water Authority.  Also, submit a copy of the inspection report obtained from the building official’s office for the meter installation and provide a copy of your original receipt for the meter showing the meter number and initial meter reading no later than the end of the calendar year in which the meter was purchased.

Following initial notification, you will receive a meter reading form each year with which to report your annual outside water usage.  Your sewer bill will be adjusted accordingly after you provide us with timely notice of usage.

IMPORTANT!  All customers are billed based upon 80% of total water consumption for the prior year, allowing a 20% discount for outside water use.  Only sewer customers who provide outside water usage meter data will receive discounts in excess of the standard 20%.  Customers receive credit for actual outside water use or the standard 20%, whichever is greater.
